Practical website tips and personal stories for small business owners in Montana, Utah, and beyond.
Best Gift Ideas for Web Designers
Finding gifts for web designers is oddly specific. Search “gifts for creatives” and you’ll get generic art supplies. Search “tech gifts” and you’ll find things too flashy or expensive to be practical. But web designer gifts? Almost nothing.
As a freelance web designer for small businesses in Utah and Montana, I know firsthand what’s actually useful, what feels thoughtful, and what makes the daily grind of running an affordable, female-owned business just a little cozier.
These are the gifts I’d be genuinely excited to unwrap. Putting together this list serves the dual purpose of letting my husband know what to get me this holiday season... be right back after sending this post to him (;
Classic & Cozy
Sometimes the best gift is simple. You really can't go wrong with a mug, candle, and bar of soap. Here are some classics (designed by yours truly) that are perfect for the web designer in your life:
Web Designer Candle This candle literally says “Smells Like You’re an Amazing Web Designer.” It’s natural soy wax, clean burning, and playful without being tacky. I burn candles while I’m sketching website layouts—it makes late-night design sessions feel more like a ritual than a grind.
Web Designer Embroidered Crewneck Every web designer I know has a uniform: oversized sweatshirts. This one’s embroidered with “Web Designer,” so it feels a little more elevated than the random college hoodie I usually throw on. It’s warm, cozy, and perfect for when you’re buried in client projects.
Web Designer Hat For messy hair mornings when you have a client call in ten minutes. I also love wearing this around town and getting to spark conversations with people about being a web designer.
Tech Essentials
Designers rely on tech and would definietly benefit from small upgrades that make everyday work smoother.
Noise-Canceling Headphones These Soundcore headphones have been on my wishlist for years. My husband uses them weekly for work-from-home days and they've never let us down. I love the cozy look to them, but the noise cancelling and premium sound quality is really what makes them worth the investment.
Logitech MX Master 3S Ergonomic Mouse The mouse almost every designer swears by. It’s ergonomic, buttery smooth, and has programmable buttons that save time in Photoshop, Figma, etc. Prevent hand cramps and injury with a premium mouse. I love the pink version, but any color will do the trick!
Protective Laptop Cover Laptops are a major investment in a freelance designer’s business, and it's worth the extra step to protect it. I personally love this slim, protective cover because it shows of the beautiful color of my computer while keeping it safe in coffee shops and client meetings.
Desk & Home Office
Most freelance web designers spend half their lives at the desk, so workspace gifts are always appreciated.
Wireless Desk Lamp Lighting matters more than you think. This portable lamp is so cozy! It adjusts brightness and warmth, so I can set it to “bright and focused” in the morning or “warm and calm” when I’m winding down.
Designer Desk Mat A desk mat instantly makes a workspace feel more personal and cozy. I'm in love with all of elyse's designs and you really can't go wrong with her desk mats.
Blue Light Glasses Screen time is brutal on your eyes. From my research, Felix Gray glasses actually work to filter out blue light and prevent headaches. Plus, they are a cute fashion statement.
Unique & Out-of-the-Box
Not everything has to be practical. Sometimes it’s the small, surprising gifts that are the most memorable.
Pantone Color Cards Every designer knows Pantone. Write an aesthetic note, hang on your wall as decor, or keep in your drawer for easy color referencing and inspiration.
Cozy Slippers For the “home office commute.” I’ve worked in slippers all winter, and they’ve become part of my daily routine. If you want to go above and beyond with your gift, these are the best-selling, highly-praised Ugg slippers that will be treasured by the web designer in your life.
Caffeine Fix No designer survives on water alone. Whether its a collection of your favorite energy drinks, a local coffee shop gift card, or this adorable Nespresso machine, fueling a web designer's caffeine fix is the perfect gift. I personally start my work day each morning. with my Nespresso machine by my side.
Final Note
Gifting for web designers doesn’t have to mean expensive gadgets, cheesy t-shirts, or obscure software. The best gifts are hidden in plain sight.
From the perspective of a Utah and Montana-based freelance web designer, these are the things I’d be thrilled to unwrap—and that any designer in your life will put to good use.
