the secret life

of a web designer

Designing Websites in Bozeman vs. Salt Lake City

My web design journey began in Bozeman, Montana. You might call it a “bigger” small town. Businesses here truly felt connected. There was a natural sense of camaraderie. Photographers teamed up with social media managers. Coffee shops hosted Bible studies. Juice shops joined in on art walks. It was community-driven.

In contrast, Utah is overflowing with businesses. It’s full of opportunity, but it lacks that “everyone knows everyone” feel. Here, you carve out your own niche. You find your people within your specific industry or corner of the internet. The potential for partnerships is massive, but that can feel overwhelming too. It’s no longer about being the one wedding stationery artist in town. Your website needs to be more specific than just “local.”

As a web designer, I thrive on collaboration. A great website is the result of good photography, copywriting, business strategy, and brand design. I may be a coding master, but I’m not meant to master every piece of the puzzle. Neither are you. That’s why we need each other.

I’m thankful for remote work that allows me to serve both Bozeman and Salt Lake City. And I’m on a continual journey to build real friendships with other business owners who support one another, dream together, and do good work in their communities. None of us have it all figured out, but together, we’re making a meaningful impact right where we are.
